Three-Day City Trip to Prague
Prague is a city that captivates with its rich history, stunning architecture, and hidden corners. This 3-day itinerary combines the best of the city's landmarks with some great local spots to eat, ensuring you experience the culture as well as the cuisine. Here's the perfect mix for your city break!
From my own experience, I can confidently say that while three days is plenty of time to discover a lot of Prague, it’s impossible to see it all in just one trip. Even after visiting the city more than twenty times, I still stumble upon hidden gems that I missed before. The itinerary I’m about to share will give you a great taste of what Prague has to offer, but it only scratches the surface.
Use these next three days as inspiration, but don’t be afraid to make your own discoveries along the way. Enjoy Prague to the fullest - and trust me, you’ll want to return in another season to see it in a whole new light!

Day 1: Iconic Landmarks and Historical Gems

Morning
Begin your trip at the magnificent Prague Castle. You’ll want to set aside a few hours to explore the St. Vitus Cathedral, the Old Royal Palace, and Golden Lane.
The castle grounds offer stunning views of the city.
Morningbreak
After exploring, stop for a quick coffee and cake at Mandlárna Loretánská, in Loretánská 5. It is close to the castle. The calm atmosphere and traditional Czech cakes are a great pick-me-up.
Lžička café in Tržiště is another great place for a morning break.

Afternoon
After descending from the castle, cross the Charles Bridge, one of Prague’s most iconic sights. The statues along the bridge make for great photo opportunities, and the view over the Vltava River is breathtaking.
Once in the Old Town, make your way to Old Town Square and check out the world-famous Astronomical Clock. Be sure to visit the Old Town Hall Tower for panoramic city views.
Lunch
For lunch, you’re spoiled for choice, but Lokál Dlouhááá is a fantastic spot for traditional Czech cuisine. They serve hearty dishes like svíčková (beef with cream sauce and dumplings) in a modern setting.
Perfect for refueling after a morning of sightseeing.

Evening
Spend your evening wandering through Josefov, the Jewish Quarter. While the Jewish Museum and synagogues close in the late afternoon, the streets take on a mystical quality at night.
The area is rich in history and atmosphere.
Dinner
If you want a relaxing end to your day, consider dining at La Veranda, Elišky Krásnohorské 2/10, a cozy restaurant known for its fresh, locally sourced ingredients and creative dishes, just steps from the Jewish Quarter.
For a cheaper and Czech meal, try Hostinec U Sádlů, Klimentská 2, for a local atmosphere with Czech cuisine.
Day 2: Scenic Views and Local Discoveries

Morning
Start day two with a visit to Petrin Hill. Take the funicular up to the top and climb the Petrin Tower for sweeping views of the city.
You’ll get a panoramic look at Prague’s red rooftops and river. Afterward, stop by Strahov Monastery, home to one of the most beautiful libraries in Europe.
The quiet gardens surrounding the monastery are perfect for a peaceful morning stroll.
Morning break
If you are up for an early beer, try the Strahov Monastery Brewery. They have special beers on the tap.
If you're in need of a coffee or tea break, make your way to Cosmai Café in Pohořelec. Stepping inside feels like walking into someone's cozy living room—warm, inviting, and full of charm. It's the perfect spot to relax and recharge before continuing your Prague adventure.

Afternoon
Head down into Malá Strana (Lesser Town) and wander through the charming streets. Make your way to Kampa Island, a tranquil spot by the river that’s great for relaxing. Will you find the crawling babies?
Visit the nearby Lennon Wall, an ever-changing mural that has become a symbol of peace and freedom.
Lunch in my favorite restaurant in Prague
For lunch, try U Mecenáše, located on the beautiful Malostranske namesti. This historic restaurant offers a beautiful interior and delicious dishes. Their Roast Pork steak is one of my favorites.
After lunch, explore Letná Park, a favourite spot for locals. It’s known for its fantastic views over Prague and its many bridges. Take a walk up to the Metronome, a quirky piece of modern art, and enjoy the panoramic view of the city.

Evening
As the sun sets, make your way back towards the Vltava River for a relaxing evening. The view of Charles Bridge and Prague Castle illuminated at night is magical. If you're up for something different, consider a river cruise to see Prague’s landmarks from the water.
Dinner
For dinner, check out Mlýnec, located near the river. This restaurant combines Czech traditions with a modern twist and offers a lovely view of Charles Bridge from the dining room.
If you want nothing fancy, Hostinec u Rotundy in Karoliny Světlé is the place to be. Grumpy waiters, cheap beer and Czech food.
One of my favorites.
Day 3: Hidden Gems and Local Flavour

Morning
Start your final day with a visit to Vyšehrad, a historic fortress that offers stunning views and peaceful surroundings. Explore the Basilica of St. Peter and St. Paul and stroll through Vyšehrad Cemetery, where many famous Czech figures are buried. The fortress walls provide some of the best panoramic views of the Vltava River and the city below.
Morning break or early lunch
When you are hungry, go for an early lunch to the nearby restaurant U Kroka for a Beef goulash or a duck breast.
For just a coffee, walk a few more yards, and you'll come across Kavárna Čekárna.
Both are in Vratislavova .

Afternoon
After Vyšehrad, head to Wenceslas Square for a bit of history and people-watching. The square has been the backdrop for many key moments in Czech history, including the Velvet Revolution. At the top of the square stands the impressive National Museum. If you’re a fan of history, step inside for a quick visit to learn more about Czech culture and history.
Lunch
Lunch at Café Slavia or Café Louvre, both in Narodni.
These classic Prague cafés were frequently visited by Franz Kafka and Albert Einstein, is a great way to break up the day.
The vibe is old-world, and the food is delicious, especially the Goulash and Club Sandwich or the grilled goat cheese

Evening
End your trip with a walk through Old Town and enjoy the atmosphere as the streets come alive in the evening.
For a more peaceful end to your day, wander along the quiet lanes of Nový Svět near the castle or take in the night views of the city from Letná Park or Petrin Hill one last time.
Dinner
For your final dinner, treat yourself to something special at Terasa U Zlaté studně, a restaurant with incredible views over the city and a fine dining menu that will leave you with unforgettable memories of your time in Prague.
For something more affordable go to U Zavěšenýho Kafe, a restaurant in Loretanska with a beautiful view over Petrin Hill.
Extra Tips:
- Wear comfortable shoes; the cobblestones can be tough on your feet!
- If you are tired of walking, take a tram. Read more about the Public Transport.
- Buy a Prague CoolPass if you plan to visit multiple attractions.
- Don’t try a Trdelník - a non traditional Czech touristy, sweet, rolled pastry that is not worth your money. It smells great, but after a couple of bites you will realise it is killing your appetite and many people throw it away. Read more about tourist traps.
This balanced 3-day itinerary provides a perfect blend of sightseeing and enjoying local flavours, helping you experience the best of Prague’s rich history, scenic views, and culinary culture. Enjoy your stay in this magical city!
